Everybody knows that. But, to what extent? A climate scientist and a shaman claim that Amazonian trees are determining atmospheric dynamics on a global scale. But are they really talking about the same forest? The same rain? The same world? This talk engages with what has been presented in the vocabulary of the recent \u2018ontological turn\u2019 as being incommensurable anthropological differences. An\u00edbal G. Arregui assesses this discussion \u2013 and the role of its new actors \u2013 against the backdrop of climate change and environmental degradation.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00edbal Garc\u00eda Arregui does r<span class=\"fontstyle0\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">esearch and teaching in environmental anthropology, political ecology, Amazonian anthropology, ethnographic methods and theory. His regional focus lies on the lower Amazon and Brazil (ribeirinhos and quilombolas).<\/span> In his current research project\u00a0 he works on \u201e<span class=\"fontstyle0\">Translating the Climate: the Amazon as Cosmopolitical Tension\u201c<\/span>. <\/span>In 2013 he published his doctoral thesis <span class=\"fontstyle0\">\u201e<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle2\">La Selva Tecnol\u00f3gica: Sistemas Sociot\u00e9cnicos y Antropolog\u00eda Sim\u00e9trica en Comunidades Ribere\u00f1as del Bajo Amazonas<\/span><span class=\"fontstyle0\">\u201e. <\/span>He is currently working as a l<span class=\"fontstyle0\">ecturer in \u201cEconomic Anthropology and Environmental Politics\u201d at the University of Vienna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZsVq5afWme8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Video by Antonio Donato Nobre (2010): The magic of the Amazon.
